Research Recommendations
Research recommendations
-
Future research should assess the impact of middlemolecule clearance by high-flux membranes and/or membrane adsorption on patient outcome in sepsis. The comparator group should be patients with sepsis that do not receive extracorporeal treatment (if no AKI) or conventional RRT (if AKI).
-
The potential impact of dialyzer membrane composition (material, flux, etc.) on outcomes in patients with AKI remains unsettled, due to the relatively small size of trials. It would be useful to conduct larger trials comparing different membranes and examining patient-centered outcomes include survival, renal recovery, and resource utilization.
